Blood Pressure
What is Blood Pressure
Blood Pressure is the force exerted by circulation blood against the walls of the blood vessels. It's essential for the circulation of oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
How is Blood Pressure Measured
Blood Pressure is typically measured using a Sphygmomanometer which consists of an inflatable cuff wrapped around the upper arm and a pressure gauge. The measurement is recorded in millimetres of mercury (mmHg) and is expected as two numbers.
Types of blood Pressure
There are two types
1. Systolic pressure : the top number represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts and pumps blood out during each heart beat.
2. Diastolic Pressure : The bottom number represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart testes between beats and fills with blood.
Normal Blood Pressure
Normal: less than 120/80 mmHg
Elevation : 120-129/80mmhg
Hypertension stage 1: 130- 139/80- 89mmhg
Hypertension stage 2.: 140 or Higher/90 or higher mmHg
Hypertension Crisis: Higher than 180/120mmhg
